venice-plaza.960.641.sEach year H+U+D sponsor an international city seminar co-taught by faculty from the humanities and design disciplines. As part of the course, students and faculty travel to the city of focus to visit key places and learn from local in-city partners. This past fall, the 2015-16 international city seminar traveled to Venice. Professors Raffaella Fabiani Giannetto, Landscape Architecture and Fabio Finotti, Italian Studies led students through an exploration of Venice and its development through the study of self-representation through the use of texts, visuals, and built form. Two student accounts provide unique documentation of the trip. Natalia Revelo La Rotta, a senior studying Visual Studies with a concentration in Architecture, Practice and Technology, recounts her trip experience in an article for Penn Provost’s Arts and Culture Initiative. Jackie Van Loan, an Urban Studies major, documented her trip to Venice through a video travel diary.
