Doctoral Fellow, City and Regional Planning; Project Manager School of Design; Mellon Humanities, Urbanism and Design Initiative

Mary Rocco is a Doctoral Candidate in City and Regional Planning at PennDesign. She received her Master’s in Urban Planning (MUP) from Hunter College- City University of New York. Currently, she is the Project Manager for the Mellon Foundation funded Humanities, Urbanism and Design Initiative (H+U+D) at Penn. Her dissertation research explores the role of philanthropic foundations in the urban revitalization of Legacy Cities.  She also teaches in the Urban Studies program at Penn’s College of Arts and Sciences and is also an adjunct lecturer in urban studies and urban planning at Hunter College in New York City. More broadly, her research interests include: urban revitalization, community and economic development, and urban institutions
